CD Projekt have shared some 4K screenshots of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and it goes without saying that the game is exceptionally beautiful, the problem with these 4K stills however is that they draw attention to what has been removed from the game, specifically something that lends it a bit of depth.
I’m of course talking about shadows on the grass. It sounds like a small thing, but the shading on grass adds a wealth of character to a game world and it’s sad to see it’s gone. The second image in particular, looks great at first glance, but if you zoom in, even just a little, world textures, world detail and foliage quality drops significantly. Here’s hoping this isn’t the game running at its highest settings.
But with that aside, the game is stunning. The small scuffs and scratches on armour plating, the way face paints are cracked around the areas of a face where skin bunches up and I’m especially impressed by the level of detail in the clothing and chain mail, something that’s typically botched. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches next month on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
