The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to Feature 12,000 Animations

Lead engine programmer Balázs Török says this is the current target.

With the power that the PS4 and Xbox One offer, developers are working to not only improve the overall fidelity of textures and implement better forms of ambient occlusion and anti-aliasing, but to also increase the number and quality of animations. CD Projekt RED’s lead engine programmer Balázs Török recently spoke about the animations in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to Gamereactor and how the current target is to provide more than 10,000 unique animations.

“We created our own animations systems this time and we wrote our own animation compression, which means we have even more animations than we had in The Witcher 2, which was a pretty amazing 7,000 animations already. But right now we are aiming at 12,000 animations in The Witcher 3.”

Can it top Ubisoft’s cross-generational Watch Dogs though, which features more than 13,000 unique animations? We’ll find out when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases in February 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Stay tuned for more information till then.
