The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED’s wildly ambitious (see what I did there? Did you? Did you?) capper to their Witcher trilogy of role playing games, will be running at 30 frames per second at recommended specifications, the developer has confirmed.
While this news will obviously come as a disappointment to a lot of people, there are certain things to consider- one, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is crazy big, with a vast open world, and gorgeous graphics, and that has to factor in somehow. I am one of the biggest proponents of prioritizing framerate over anything else, but when even a developer such as Nintendo, known for its staunch refusal to budge from 60FPS at all costs, is sticking to 30 frames with its upcoming (equally ambitious) Zelda game, I can give CD Projekt RED some leeway here.
Here is what Adam Badowski, CD Projekt Red Managing Director said, “I think, we’ll stick with 30 FPS. We’re not going to stop working on performance until the very end, it’s crucial matter to us, there are different PCs with different specs. Programmers insisted on avoiding tricking the players by lowering predicted specs. As I mentioned before, It can only get better.”
Instead, CD Projekt RED are arguing, they will be pushing for maximum performance optimization… which, I mean, is great guys, and I just gave you a free pass, but frame rate is performance optimization.
Unfortunately, due to CD Projekt RED committing to parity across all versions, you will get 30FPS no matter what version you play (though presumably, some enterprising modder on PC will unlock higher frame rates).
