They Are Billions Update Adjusts Starting Missions’ Difficulty, Tech Tree Restrictions

Numantian Games also relaxes the timer for initial missions.

Zombie survival strategy game They Are Billions left Steam Early Access last week, launching with its eagerly awaited campaign. The response has been bit mixed though – many are having issues with the variety of objectives, while others didn’t like the restrictions in the tech tree. Numantian Games has taken to addressing some of these with its latest update.

Firstly, regarding the difficulty (which has always been a sore point for the game), the default mode has been set to Accessible instead of Challenging. The difficulty of the first few missions has also been reduced. As for time limits, they’ve been removed from the initial missions and increased in others.

With regards to the tech tree, the developer noted that it had completed the campaign on Challenging with a variety of different technologies unlocked. “In the end, what we want to say is that the fun comes from exploring and creating your own strategies with the resources at your disposal, to adapt and survive, that’s what the game is all about,” they wrote. “We hope you’ll agree.”

It also provided a few recommendations, like completing some missions beforehand or lowering the difficulty. For those having issues though, some “adjustments” have been made to the tech tree so that the beginning is “more accessible.”

They Are Billions will also be coming be coming to PS4 and Xbox One in July. In the meantime, we’ll see what other improvements are made to the campaign on PC.
