Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Offers Spells, Armor and Melee Weapons

Despite its ties to Borderlands, new players can jump right in and enjoy the story without playing the looter shooter series.

Revealed at the Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a spin-off of the Borderlands franchise set in a fantasy world. Players must band together to defeat the Dragon Lord and can use all manner of guns and magic to do this. At the IGN Summer of Gaming Expo stream, creative director Matt Cox provided more details on the gameplay (which you can see below).

Though weapons can’t be fully customized, Wonderlands will have armor and amulets to augment your hero with. More importantly, it will be introducing melee weapons to the series for the first time. Grenades are out but they’re replaced by spells. Cox describes these as “mini-skills” due to their overall power and “variety of behaviors.”

Even though this is essentially based on Bunkers and Badasses from Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, Wonderlands is described as a brand new title. You don’t need to be familiar with the Borderlands lore to enjoy the story and setting. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is currently slated to release in early 2022.
