Torchlight Frontiers Renamed to Torchlight 3, Releases This Summer for PC

Free to play model will be dropped and offline support is being added.

Echtra Games has announced a name change for Torchlight Frontiers, its follow-up to the beloved action RPG franchise. It’s now called Torchlight 3 and will be dropping the free to play model in favour of full priced experience. Check out the announcement trailer below with series creator Max Schafer and the official blog post here.

Much like previous games, there will now be an Act structure as players begin in the Imperial Outpost and progress to Hyvid to battle the nether corruption. Progression systems are being changed with Frontier-specific levels, scaling and gear stats being removed. And while you can still meet other players in towns, zones are now private by default. You can also choose to play offline as well as online.

If that weren’t enough, the in-game store for purchasing items with real money has also been removed. Torchlight 3 is currently slated to launch for PC first this Summer with a console release to follow afterwards. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming months.
