A NeoGAF member recently stumbled upon something interesting. Ubisoft has apparently filed an “express abandonment” request for one of the six trademarks it holds for Watch Dogs, which is due to release in the coming months for both current and next gen platforms.
The funny thing is, though it abandoned the principal Watch Dogs trademark, which includes “game software and electronic game programs,” it doesn’t mean the game has been canceled. Yes, even though the request was filed by CEO Yves Guillemot himself on February 1st.
The abandonment occurred just a few days after an extension was granted on the same trademark. So the obvious question is: Why the abandonment? It could be for several administrative issues. Heck, the game’s title may even have been changed going forward.
Regardless, it’s unlikely that Ubisoft has cancelled the project, especially since it’s one of the most hyped up titles of 2013 (and now 2014, since it was delayed from November 2013 to Spring 2014). What are your thoughts on this development? Let us know below.
