Update: It has been confirmed that the cancellation was an error. Kotaku has confirmed that the game will indeed be coming to the Nintendo Wii U.
Original Story:
A strange occurrence is, er, occurring in Italy. It seems that GameStop Italy is offering refunds on the Wii U version of Watch Dogs for those who pre-ordered. The reason? The Wii U version of Ubisoft’s open world hacking adventure has apparently been cancelled.
Of course, when VG247 asked around at GAME and ShopTo in the UK, both retailers denied pre-orders being cancelled and confirmed that Watch Dogs was still open for pre-order on the Wii U. Neither retail chain heard anything about the Wii U version being cancelled either.
On asking for comments from Ubisoft, the pat reply from a representative was, “We have nothing to comment at this stage,” which neither confirms nor denies anything. A Nintendo rep simply said that, “I’m afraid we wouldn’t be able to comment on a Ubisoft title.”
As of now, Watch Dogs is still slated to release this Spring for the Wii U, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC after being delayed from its original November 2013 release.
