MachineGames has recently confirmed with GameSpot that the latest iteration in the classic FPS franchise, Wolfenstein: The New Order (being co-developed with Bethesda Softworks, and featuring id Software’s id Tech 5 Engine), will not have any multiplayer modes.
So much like the vein of the original Wolfenstein – which didn’t feature any multiplayer – it’s single player or bust.
Creative director Jens Matthies is still a bit starry eyed about the whole thing though. “It’s such a huge part of video game legacy. If there’s a video game museum, Wolfenstein is in the first room. It’s the start of the wave that shaped the world of gaming.
“On a personal level, I played this when I was younger and it was mind-blowing. I never then of course dreamed that I was going to be working with it. It’s both an honor and a legacy.”
Wolfenstein: The New Order is slated to release in Q4 of 2013 for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4.
