A Way Out Has Sold “Almost” 3.5 Million Units – Josef Fares

Fares says that such numbers for a small team "are madness."

Josef Fares has his own way of doing things, as evidenced by his recent rant on the naming for the Xbox Series X/S. However, there’s no denying that the director of A Way Out and the upcoming It Takes Two has had success. Speaking to IGN, Fares spoke about the former and how no one, “not even EA”, thought it would sell.

“When I believe in something, nothing can stop me. Obviously no one believed in [A Way Out] – not even EA thought it would sell, but they still believed in me. I didn’t care. I was like, ‘This is going to happen.’” Fares then confirmed that “almost” 3.5 million units of the co-op title have been sold.

“These numbers for a small team of 30, 35 people are madness, you know? And at 3.5 million units sold, that means that, I don’t know, almost seven million people played this game, which is crazy.”

A Way Out was unique due to its completely co-op nature and lack of any matchmaking. Nevertheless, it received strong critical acclaim. The next title from Hazelight Studios, It Takes Two, is another co-op adventure. However, the focus this time is more light-hearted and fantastical as a married couple leaning towards divorce are suddenly turned into dolls and must cooperate to survive. The action is more fast-paced and platforming heavy overall.

It Takes Two is out on March 26th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
