Microsoft has been dominating headlines for the past week, with the announcement of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, but as you’d expect, Xbox has plenty of other irons in the fire. A number of first party games in development for Xbox Series X/S are known already, but it seems that there might be more coming in the not-too-distant future that haven’t yet been announced.
XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker recently claimed in the XboxEra Podcast (spotted by Pure Xbox) that there’s a second Xbox franchise that’s “getting the Master Chief Collection treatment”, with a remastered compilation currently in the works. Baker didn’t go into detail on what franchise that is, but did say that it’s likely to launch in 2023.
The two franchises that make the most sense for something like this are probably Fable and Gears of War. With Playground Games working on reboot of the series, it’s possible that Microsoft might choose to release a remastered collection of past Fable games in the lead-up to the new one’s launch.
Meanwhile, with The Coalition currently focused on switching its development pipeline over to Unreal Engine 5, a remastered collection of all Gears of War games might be great practice to get acquainted with the engine and prepare for the development of the inevitable Gears 6.
Of course, that’s all just speculation at this point, but if this collection is indeed launching in 2023, then it shouldn’t be awfully long before we start hearing more about it. We’ll keep an eye out for new details, so stay tuned for more updates.
