Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – Traditional Side Quests Are “Almost Nonexistent”, Says Ubisoft

Players will instead uncover "world events" more naturally while exploring.

Ubisoft Forward graced us with new gameplay footage for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (which is also the first official showcase of said footage). It offered a better look at the game’s combat, exploration, raids and much more. However, one aspect of the game that hasn’t been touched on too much is the complete lack of “traditional” side quests.

Narrative director Darby McDevitt explained to GameSpot that these kinds of side quests are “almost nonexistent.” Instead, the player will have “world events” that they can discover spontaneously, which fits with Eivor’s status as an invader in England. In the meantime, story arcs that are part of the main quest will be longer.

Basically, you won’t have to worry about encountering NPCs doling out quests everywhere like in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. That being said, it wouldn’t be strange to see some aligned characters have their own in-depth stories as well. More details will likely follow in the coming months so stay tuned.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is out on November 17th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. It’s also coming to Xbox Series X and PS5.
