Avowed Has at Least 10 Different “Ending Slides”

"I can tell you our ending slides number in the double digits, you can end up with a lot of different combinations of them," says game director Carrie Patel.

As an RPG made by Obsidian Entertainment, it should be no surprise that Avowed is going to place great deal of emphasis on choice and consequence mechanics, which in turn will determine how its story ends. Speaking in a recent interview with IGN, game director Carrie Patel offered more details on that front.

As per Patel, Avowed is going to have ending slides numbering “in the double digits”, and what combination of them you get will depend on the choices you make throughout the experience.

“That is very hard to say,” Patel said. “I can tell you that our ending slides number in the double digits, and you can end up with a lot of different combinations of them. I mean, this is an Obsidian game, so your ending is really the sum total of your choices across the game, across a lot of pieces of content, depending on what you encountered and what you did when you found it.”

It’s worth noting that having over 10 different ending slides doesn’t mean the game has over 10 distinct endings. RPGs with multiple endings and a focus on choice and consequence mechanics often use series of still images at the end of their story to wrap up lingering plotlines, with slides reflecting players’ choices, which is likely what Patel is referring to here. What that means for how many distinct main endings there are in the game remains to be seen.

Avowed is due out on February 18, 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
