Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently in early access and already a pretty big game considering there’s only one Act. While Acts 2 and 3 are being play-tested, more content is coming to Act 1 to make new playthroughs feel fresh. Perhaps even more interesting, however, is a “thing” that studio founder and director Swen Vincke has that he’s been sitting on “for years.”
“I got a thing, and I can’t talk about it. So I’ve been sitting on this thing for years already, so I’m going to be so happy when that thing is going to be out there. I hope people are going to like it because I think it’s really cool. Since day one – since day one – I saw people say something, and I said ‘Oh my God. I wish I could tell them…'” he said to Rock Paper Shotgun.
Of course, we’ll need to wait until the full release to know more. Speaking about Update 9, the last major content update before version 1.0, Vincke discussed how increasing the level cap to 5 changes things. Unlike most other games, leveling in Dungeons and Dragons, especially to level 5, is a big deal.
“It seems to work out well, so I’m quite happy with how that goes. You get a good sense of progression, you get a much broader range of options and things that you can start doing.” However, this also means the team had to re-balance fights with the level 5 cap in mind.
“Like, no, suddenly you can handle more enemies, now we can start playing with that, we can make enemies tougher. You can survive things. You get a lot of mobility, a lot of AOE, and a lot of control. You get more actions. You feel like, ‘Oh, my gameplay has just become richer.’
Baldur’s Gate 3 is out in August 2023. For more details on Patch 9, head here. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
