Baldur’s Gate 3 Won’t Release in 2019

There's still a lot of work to be done on the highly anticipated sequel.

Larian Studios, developer of the critically acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin series, is creating Baldur’s Gate 3. The Baldur’s Gate series has been considered one of, if not the best role-playing franchises ever made. To say that we’re enthusiastic about yesterday’s announcement at Google Stadia Connect would be an understatement. That being said, don’t expect the game to launch any time soon.

US Gamer held an interview with Larian Studios founder and CEO Swen Vincke. It was revealed that there was a lot of to work to do, and when Vincke was asked if Baldur’s Gate 3 would release this year, he simply laughed and said “No.” Whether it’s out in 2020 or even early 2021 remains to be seen.

On the bright side, there will be a new tabletop game called Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus, which is considered a prequel to Baldur’s Gate 3. New fans can also catch up on the series when the Baldur’s Gate titles along with Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights release on Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch later this year. Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available simultaneously for Google Stadia and PC – it’s coming to Steam and GOG, but not the Epic Games Store.
