DICE and EA’s newest Battlefield game apparently did better than what many may have expected. Speaking during their quarterly financial meeting yesterday, EA revealed that Battlefield 5 ended up selling 7.3 million copies, which is a fairly decent result—except that it somehow still ended up underperforming relative to what EA had expected from it. What in the world had they expected from it?
Apparently, they had expected it to do about a million more units than it did. That said, EA revealed that they view the game as a long term project, citing the sustained success of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 as comparable examples, and stated that ongoing support from their part, such as with the upcoming battle royale mode for the game, should help Battlefield 5 do well over the long run. Assuming it doesn’t end up having to compete with EA’s own Apex Legends, the free to play battle royale game in the Titanfall universe that seems to be doing really well for itself currently.
Battlefield 5 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
