Respawn finally has a breakout hit, and all it took was the death of Titanfall 3.

Apex Legends

So it seems like the whole stealth launching Apex Legends gambit may be paying off. We already know the game seems to have been well received by the community, and that it had managed a million unique players just 8 hours after launch, but apparently the word of mouth has caused it to go viral, because EA is reporting far bigger numbers now, just a day and a half since its launch.

Speaking during their financial call (via industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, analyst at Niko Partners on Twitter), EA has revealed that Apex Legends now has 2.5 million total players, and a peak concurrent player count of 600,000 users—which are incredible numbers across the board, and indicate that the game has become a hit, with people wanting to check it out because of the buzz surrounding it.

Given that EA’s focus in the coming quarter will be on Apex Legends and Anthem, I suppose it’s good to see that one half of their gambit has paid off. Now to see if Anthem also does as well as EA expects it to.
