Revealing and releasing their squad based battle royale title, Apex Legends, was surely a gamble for Respawn Entertainment and EA, but it’s a gamble that seems to be paying off, obviously aided by the fact that the game is free to play. Within an hour of its launch, the game was topping most viewed charts on Twitch, and now, it seems like it’s already crossed another landmark, within a day of its release.
Respawn boss Vince Zampella recently took to Twitter to announce that Apex Legends had been played by over one million unique players within just eight hours of its launch. As I mentioned, the fact that its a free to play title has obviously attracted a lot of players, but Apex Legends is also offering some interesting things that aren’t usually seen in battle royale titles, such as hero shooter elements.
The game is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Respawn Entertainment plans on introducing cross-platform play eventually, but there are no plans for cross-progression- read more on that through here.
I’m so overwhelmed right now, @PlayApex broke a million unique players in under 8 hours. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for showing up and being part of this with @Respawn you are amazing!! pic.twitter.com/lvNgfwwKhl
