Battlefield: Hardline Doesn’t Signal Annualization of Series

Studio GM Karl Magnus-Troedsson says "there's no set rule in place" for the series going annual.

Visceral Games has been given the ball with Battlefield: Hardline and seems to be doing a decent job thus far. Don’t let its proximity to the release of Battlefield 4 fool you though – the franchise isn’t necessarily being annualized.

Studio general manager Karl Magnus-Troedsson discussed this with Eurogamer, stating that, “We’ll keep making Battlefield games as long as we have great ideas for them.”

Troedsson also revealed that as far as annualizing the franchise went, “There’s no rule set in place for this.”

In many ways, it comes down to DICE which is the flagship developer for the Battlefield series. If it feels an idea is good enough, then you can expect a Battlefield release in the same vein. It could mean a new Battlefield every year and it couldn’t but for now, DICE isn’t keeping the franchise on a tri-yearly rotation like Activision is doing with Call of Duty.

Battlefield: Hardline will be out on October 21st for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC.
