Borderlands 2 writer expresses regret over cut-out mission

True, touching character moments cut out from the game.

Borderlands 2 had some great characters, and one of the most entertaining one was Tiny Tina. With her chirpiness and loud personality, she won us all over, but it looks like in one particular scene during a mission, she becomes somber and quiet and… well, sad.

Anthony Burch, lead writer of Borderlands 2 revealed during a Reddit ask me anything session that there was one particular mission in Borderlands 2 where after a “certain” character’s death, you have to inform that character’s friends about. When you tell Tiny Tina, you see a completely different side of her.

Burch says he’s bummed that this mission did not make it into the game.

“After a certain character dies, you get a quest to go tell all of that character’s friends that the person is dead,” said Burch. “Originally, you were going to go tell Tiny Tina and she – for the first and only time in the game – would lose her insane manic tone and actually get really solemn.

“She’d thank you for telling her and ask you to leave, before disappearing into her workshop. And then, if you moved really close to the workshop, you could hear her quietly sobbing. I’m bummed we didn’t get to implement that.”

We have to agree with him, that does sound awesome, and we would have loved to see it in the final game too. Sure, Borderlands 2 was awesome and has to be one of the funniest games in recent memory, but that missions sounds like something we all would have cherished.

Burch also talked about the jabs the Torgue DLC took at game critics and review scores. He said: “It was a response to the weird way that people tend to react toward review scores, something I experienced firsthand while working as a reviewer at Destructoid.”
