Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is a sales juggernaut and we have the numbers to prove it. For years people have been saying that the brand will decline eventually but Activision has really handled it well, and has seen this franchise grow from strength to strength.
Earlier we reported that the game brought in $500 million revenue for Activision and that was when the game launched not for the entire revenue for a week. If you consider 11 million sales, the revenue should be well over $600 million, which is massive.
However, one worrying thing is that the first week sales were lower than Modern Warfare 3 which did a lot more, but you cannot really judge it so quick since the games in the franchise have long legs and will keep selling. Modern Warfare 3 sold 20 million units and Black Ops which was released a year earlier than it also did the same amount.
We don’t really have accurate data from Activision regarding this, but VGChartz (yes I know) reports these numbers. Activision had made Call of Duty: Elite subscription free to all, so that was a great decision by them.
We also reviewed the game and gave it a 7.5/10 score. Our reviewer Kirk, found some issues with the game which you can read over here.
