In a first for the Call of Duty franchise, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has been rated R18+ by the Australian Classification Board.
This is due to its themes and violence, which are considered “strong impact” and “high impact” respectively. It also has a moderate amount of language and sex, while the drug use is mild. Having played the multiplayer beta, it certainly didn’t seem all that different from past Call of Duty titles in terms of violence, unless you count the excessive gibs from bodies exploding.
Regardless, such restrictions will hardly deter Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 from selling well when it releases. There’s also the possibility that Activision releases the game in Australia with some censorship or cut content. It will be interesting when the game releases on November 6th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC.
