Activision hasn’t provided a whole lot of information on the next Call of Duty, aside from it still releasing this year. Reports and rumors have been circulating for some time, however, with the most significant being that Treyach was leading development on new Call of Duty: Black Ops. Now it seems that we may have our first real hints on the game’s setting.
Twitter user Okami recently posted the box art for the first game but edited with the words “Cold War” underneath. This isn’t too much to go on but it does hint at the next game being set in that era (and not Vietnam, which had been rumored before). Okami is known for leaking details for Call of Duty: Warzone, including the release date, before its launch so there is some track record to speak of.
That being said, with the first game already being set during the Cold War, does this mean the next Black Ops will be a spin-off during the same period? Or will it be a reimagining/reboot in the vein of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)? We’ll have to wait for an official announcement to be sure so take everything with a grain of salt until then.
