Last week saw the launch of the latest entry in Activision’s primary franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The game did big business, of course, but surprisingly it actually wasn’t number 1 on the charts everywhere. Of course, that doesn’t really mean a lot considering the state of digital media as well as regional differences, but if you have any doubts that Cold War didn’t perform top of class as usual, Activision can assure you it did.
As reported by Wccftech, the publisher sent out a statement on the game’s sales earlier. Anna Malmhake, EMEA Managing Director at Activision, announced that the game had set a new day 1 digital sales record worldwide in the franchise’s history. No numbers are actually given, as Activision stopped giving unit sale numbers years ago, but considering the series we’re talking about, I wager it was pretty big.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC. You can see the opening 15 minutes of the game for little taste through here.
