Remedy Entertainment found itself in a bit of a bind this weekend with the latest update for Control. This update was meant to add Photo Mode but instead disabled offline play, so you needed to have the Epic Games Store launcher open at all times to play it. It also broke Steam Controller support.
Following complaints about Remedy, Epic Games and 505 Games forcing DRM into the game, the developer issued a statement. It said on Twitter that the update was meant “validate future paid expansions, not to force you to play online or to remove Steam Controller support.” The update has since been rolled back.
The developer will restore Photo Mode and sort out issues in the coming days while adding, “No need to blame Epic for our mistakes. Sorry!” So while players will need to a wait bit longer for Photo Mode, it means that offline play is once again available. In the meantime, Expeditions Mode is slated to arrive in December for free – it features challenge missions with different modifiers. As for the paid expansions, the first is The Foundation which is due out in Early 2020.
