Cyberpunk 2077’s new Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode releases on April 11th, adding full ray tracing, aka path tracing, to the FPS/RPG. Unlike other techniques, the number of emissive sources is unlimited, ensuring all objects have correct shadows, reflections and global illumination on PC. Check out the video to see it in action.
You’re going to need some pretty powerful hardware to pull this off. Nvidia recommends a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU (naturally) and Nvidia DLSS 3. The result is ray tracing on almost everything, from headlights and signs to street lamps, resulting in more realistically lit scenes and people. The effect is so meticulous that sunlight and even reflections bounce off surfaces. Read more about it here.
Of course, if you don’t have the hardware, GeForce NOW Ultimate provides access to an RTX 4080-powered PC and Cyberpunk 2077, so you can experience the magic.
As for other updates to the game, CD Projekt RED has confirmed more details on its paid expansion Phantom Liberty in June. It’s releasing this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.
