Previously available in the experimental branch, Red Hook Studios’ new update is live for Darkest Dungeon 2, revamping the progression system and adding the Altar of Hope. Early access players will see their Hope score, item unlocks, and hero availability reset. Check out the release trailer below.
The Altar of Hope offers upgrades and progression between runs, with players collecting Candles of Hope to increase different stats. Candles of Hope are obtained by completing objectives during an Expedition with more dangerous paths conferring better rewards. It’s possible to cash out and end an Expedition at the Inn, using those Candles to upgrade the Altar.
Alternatively, you can try and get to the Mountain, receiving every Candle earned. Any wipes or abandoned Expeditions will reduce the number of Candles, so be warned. For more details on the Altar of Hope, head here.
A new class, the Bounty Hunter, has also been added. His main trait is that doesn’t gain or lose affinity and is thus not susceptible to arguments. However, he can’t make friendships and is still vulnerable to stress. Head here to learn more about his abilities.
Darkest Dungeon 2 is available in early access for PC via the Epic Games Store. Version 1.0 is slated to launch in February 2023 with console versions coming later.
