Death Stranding Creator Is Not Attending The Game Awards (Apparently)

Industry legend Hideo Kojima may or may not be at the ceremony today.

Among the games that have been teased for The Game Awards, we know that Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part 2 won’t be present. Which is fine, because at least Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding will be there, right? It very well could be, but director Hideo Kojima himself will not be in attendance.

This is according to a recent tweet from Kojima, replying to producer/host Geoff Keighley. He said, “Good luck on your show tomorrow, Geoff,” writes Kojima “Sorry I couldn’t make this time!” Of course, it’s worth noting that Kojima has a track record for misdirection and intentionally misleading his fans whenever possible.

The real question is: What is the point of Kojima proclaiming his absence and actually showing up? Is it to throw off those who don’t believe Death Stranding will be showcased? Considering that Keighley’s original tweet teased some “#TGASecrets”, there could be something happening with the upcoming PS4 title that we don’t know about. Or it could be something else entirely.

Either way, The Game Awards 2018 will take place today at 5:30 PM PT. Stay tuned for more information in the meantime.
