Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding will be releasing this year after all. Following a long trailer showcasing gameplay and story elements, the release date was announced as November 8th. In case it was too cryptic, director Hideo Kojima posted a handy synopsis of Death Stranding’s story (courtesy of IGN’s Twitter).
In Death Stranding, people have created “Walls” and live in isolation. The goal, as Sam Porter Bridges, is to reconnect cities and society. Reads Kojima’s message: “‘DEATH STRANDING‘ is a completely new type of action game, where the player’s goal is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society.”
“All elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of ‘Strand’, or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to ‘Bridge’ these divisions, and in doing so, create new bonds or ‘Strands’ with other players around the globe.” Kojima hopes that through one’s experience, they’ll understand the importance of forging these bonds with other players.
Not that you’ll be meeting said players face to face – Death Stranding features asynchronous online multiplayer. This means that you can share safe houses, send out supplies, or even follow another player’s footsteps. With death serving as a major consequence for one’s actions and the goal being to deliver supplies while fighting bandits and Beached Things, Death Stranding definitely has a lot going on.
Death Stranding will be coming to the PS4 exclusively. Head here to learn more about the Special and Collector’s Editions.
