After rumors claiming the same, Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2: The Final Shape will launch on June 4th, 2024. It was originally planned for February 27th, but reports claim pre-orders were tracking below expectations with internal feedback being “good, not great.”
In an official statement, the development team said the expansion “needs more time to become exactly what we want it to be,” hence the delay. “The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision. One that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come.”
As for other upcoming content, Season of the Wish is still starting tomorrow, November 28th and will last until February 2024. After that, new content leading up to The Final Shape will also be released. Bungie will share more details and new gameplay for the expansion in April, showcasing the “significant content additions” in the works.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape is coming to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. It sees the Guardians venturing into the Traveler in pursuit of the Witness, encountering a realm of memories twisted by the Darkness. Players can expect a linear campaign on their first go-round, with the zone opening up and a new raid available afterwards. Stay tuned for more details and check out the new Light sub-classes here.
