Destiny 2’s Season 19 Will Get Rid of Old Currencies and Materials

Destiny 2's next season will see the removal of things like Microphasic Datalattice and Dusklight Shard, turning these matterials into Glimmer.

Developer Bungie has revealed that, in an upcoming update, Destiny 2 will be getting rid of its destination materials. Set to happen alongside the release of Season 19 in December 6, the update will essentially make materials like Helium Filaments, Microphasic Datalattice, and Dusklight Shards functionally useless.

Players will instead be able to trade them in exchange for the game’s standard currency, Glimmer, at an NPC. Currently, the materials are used to trade in for a variety of other things, such as Legendary Shards.

According to Bungie, the reason for the removal of these materials is to simplify Destiny 2‘s complex economy for new and returning players. Since Destiny 2 is a considerably different game compared to back when it first launched, the studio has likely seen a shift in priorities when it comes to game design and economics. Reducing the number of currencies that a player might have to track is a step in this direction for the studio.

Destiny 2 is currently in the midst of its pirate-themed Season of Plunder. The currently-unnamed Season 19 will be the final season part of the Witch Queen expansion, and will end with the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall.
