Devil May Cry 5 Director “Would Love To Make Dragon’s Dogma 2”

"If I could, I'd love to make Dragon's Dogma 2," says Hideaki Itsuno.

All eyes are on Capcom as they gear up for the looming launch of Devil May Cry 5but while the game is clearly director Hideaki Itsuno’s passion project, there’s other stuff that he wants to do as well. Example? Dragon’s Dogma 2. Itsuno has recently spoken about how he had the choice between making that, or a Devil May Cry sequel, and though he ultimately went with the latter, the former is still something he wants to make.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Itsuno got to talking about Dragon’s Dogma, mentioning at first how that project in particular has been his biggest challenge at Capcom to date. “That was a brand new series – a lot of other stuff I’d done was already established,” he said. “It was one of the first real new things. And back then it still wasn’t quite so common for Capcom to do a simultaneous worldwide release, plus we were doing all this new stuff with the pawn system.”

With that in mind, Dragon’s Dogma is a series Itsuno would like to return to at some point in the future. “I’ve mentioned this before, but when we started Devil May Cry 5, I’d gone to the people up top and said let me make either Devil May Cry 5 or Dragon’s Dogma 2,” he said. “I thought Devil May Cry 5 would be the better choice right now, so did that. If I could, I’d love to make Dragon’s Dogma 2 – it’d be awesome.”

Dragon’s Dogma fans do have some things to look forward to for now- the game’s Nintendo Switch port releases worldwide on April 23. Devil May Cry 5, meanwhile, is merely days away from launch, and will be releasing on March 8 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
