DOOM Eternal is looking like its going to be the culmination of everything that this iconic franchise has been about since its inception- and of course, the thing DOOM is about more than anything else is kicking ass and slaying demons. The demons are the star of the show, and with the upcoming sequel, it looks like they’re going to be at their very best, in more ways than one.
Speaking recently in a documentary made by NoClip, DOOM Eternal creative director spoke about the design of demons in the shooter. Martin discused both, the old guard – such as the likes of Archvile and Pain Elemental – and some of the new ones – such as Whiplash, an agile beast with lots of mobility, who’s also the series’ first female demon – and how id Software went about designing them, or updating their looks from past titles.
Martin also talked about how they’re designed to enhance the short of fast and frantic action that DOOM Eternal is aiming for, and how their design plays into the game’s challenging difficulty, something that the developers have spoken about in recent days quite a bit. There’s plenty of interesting stuff in there, so give it a look below.
DOOM Eternal is out for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on March 20. Its Switch version doesn’t yet have a release date, but its development is apparently progressing rather well.
