Dying Light 2’s First Story Expansion Won’t Take Place After Base Game’s Ending

Dying Light 2 Stay Human's lead game designer Tymon Smektała says the game's first story DLC will be set "sideways to the main events."

Dying Light 2 Stay Human isn’t even a couple of months old yet, but Techland knows that this is just the beginning for the game. Already, we’ve been seeing regular updates with patches, cosmetic DLC, bite-sized content drops, technical improvements, and more, but of course, Techland has bigger things in the works for Dying Light 2 in terms of post-launch support as well.

So what exactly is that going to look like? The studio has previously confirmed that it’s working on an expansion, but given where Dying Light 2 Stay Human ends, many interesting questions have been raised about how the story could continue, especially based on what choices you’ve made. It turns out, however, that that’s not something we’re going to discover just yet.

Speaking recently with Game Informer, Dying Light 2’s lead game designer Tymon Smektała said that the action RPG’s first expansion will tell a story that’s set “sideways to the main events” of the base game rather than afterward.

“The first story DLC that we have promised, I’ve seen a lot of speculation online about what it will be and I can say confidently that they… weren’t close to the mark,” he said.

“At some point, we will actually start adding to the events that happened at the end of the game,” Smektała added. “We have some ideas. On paper, as they are implemented right now, it seems promising, but definitely, this will be a challenge.”

Techland has said that it plans on supporting Dying Light 2 with varied and new content for at least the next five years, so it should be interesting to see what the developer has in store for the game. Recently, Techland said that it’s “seriously considering” adding New Game+ option- read more on that through here.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will be launching this year as cloud-exclusive release for the Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, recently, the original Dying Light also received next-gen enhancements for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
