EA Thinks The Sims 4 Will Rival Apex Legends

After the big Sims 4 giveaway, the company expects it to rival Respawn's shooter in player engagement.

When you think of two games that are directly competing in some way, probably two of the last games you’d pick would be The Sims 4 against Apex Legends. One is the latest in the long running simulation based series and the other is EA and Respawn’s take on the Battle Royale genre. But the publisher behind both are comparing them, and they think The Sims 4 will revival their new shooter in sales and overall engagement.

After going through free giveaway and a major revamp, The Sims 4 saw a huge jump of 7 million addition sales, and along with that 55% year over year increase for add-on content, said EA CEO Andrew Wilson in the last financial earnings Q&A. He said that they think the game will deliver on the same profits as the free to play Apex Legends, saying for the future “each deliver net bookings in the $300 million to $400 million range.”

Apex Legends seems to be doing pretty well despite revenue and overall viewership dipping after the initial launch. It says lot about the staying power of The Sims, as well as how much people will spend on DLC for it, that EA thinks the two will stand on equal ground. Both The Sims 4 and Apex Legends are available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
