FromSoftware has ridden many a high wave over the course of the last decade and a half, but none of its games have enjoyed the sort of widespread critical and commercial success that Elden Ring has. In fact, the open world action RPG is very much continuing to sell at a steady pace, over two years on from its release.
In a press release accompanying the recent announcement of standalone multiplayer spinoff Elden Ring: Nightreign, FromSoftware revealed that Elden Ring had shipped over 28.6 million units worldwide as of September 30. That’s up from 25 million sales announced in June. Meanwhile, the action RPG’s expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, managed to sell 5 million units within just three days of its release.
Assuming that Elden Ring maintains the impressive pace at which it has continued to sell, it probably won’t be too long before it crosses that big 30 million milestone. How well Shadow of the Erdtree has managed to sell is unknown, with FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco not having provided any updates in months.
Meanwhile, Elden Ring: Nightreign is due out sometime in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while closed network test is scheduled for February.
