Ex-Naughty Dog Art Lead on Next Gen Consoles: “A Piece of Hardware is Only a Piece of Hardware”

It's all about the experiences, according to Richard Lemarchan.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are neck to neck, even before their releases during the Holiday season. And while the technology and branding governing the consoles is important, ex-Naughty Dog art lead Richard Lemarchan feels that at the end of the day, it’s about the games.

Speaking to GamesIndustry International, he states that, “I’m someone who really enjoys high production values in console games, so I think that’s very exciting. To me, at the end of the day, all of these new consoles mean more awesome video games, so that’s something that I appreciate no matter where it’s coming from.

“It’ll be down to developers to do amazing things with them. A piece of hardware is only a piece of hardware, it’s what you do with it that’s important – the experiences you create for players which can be transformative, that can teach us more about the world around us and the other people in it. Those, for me, are the most important things.”

Then again, if the console in question doesn’t deliver the experiences/games that gamers are looking for, then the other is bound to be better…right?
