The fact that Fallout 76 is a fully online shared world game has been a topic of intense discussion among people ever since it was announced, but if you’re worried about the direction that Bethesda are taking with their new game, you shouldn’t be- because they’ve actually given it a lot of thought as well.
Fallout 76 is an idea that’s been percolating in their brains for some time now, Todd Howard said while speaking with The Guardian, and though they’re a little apprehensive of this brand new direction they’re taking, they still didn’t want that fear to stop them from trying out new things entirely.
“We had the idea, and for a while now we’ve been thinking we should try it,” Howard said. “We are sometimes afraid of doing it, as much as our fans are afraid of us doing it. But we’ve got to try new things.” Howard also went on to say that while Fallout 76 is an entirely new experiment that they’re undertaking, it does not mean that Fallout 5 will follow in its footsteps as well.
“We want to be careful with our fans and other people who ask, ‘Is this what Fallout is for ever now?’” he said. “It’s clearly not. It’s definitely its own thing.” That sounds familiar. Bethesda have taken this stance firmly and repeatedly on a number of occasions ever since Fallout 76’s announcement. They’ve assured fans that Fallout 5 will be single player game before, while also stating separately that Fallout 76 doesn’t spell what the future is going to be like for the developer.
Quite frankly, I’m fine with the fact that Bethesda are trying out new things with Fallout 76. Part of me even encourages it, which is also down to the fact that the game just looks so good. We recently wrote a piece on what we feel about the game’s new direction here at GamingBolt. It’s an interesting read- check it out over here.
