The question of what factions we will get to see in Fallout 76, or if there even will be any factions in the game, is an interesting one. The game’s online nature lends itself pretty well to both scenarios, while Bethesda themselves have said in the past that they want players to role-play themselves. “You don’t need us to create the factions, you create the factions,” Bethesda’s Pete Hines said not too long ago.
However, it seems there might be something to do with factions in the game after all. Fallout 76’s official Twitter account has recently posted two updates describing two factions. The Free State are “a group of doomsday preppers” who planned for the worst, holed themselves up in bunkers, and managed to survive- “At least, for a while”, the post adds cryptically.
The Responders, on the other hand, are a group of people who were “the first to run into danger” during the nuclear apocalypse- fire fighters, medical professionals, police officers. “After the bombs fell, they formed the Responders,” the post reads. “Their mission – help each other… no matter the cost.”
That definitely sounds like factions. Either that, or it’s just background lore- either way, it’s definitely interesting.
Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Clear up some space on your system, because it’ll require 45 GB of storage.
