Final Fantasy 14 is Coming to Xbox One – Phil Spencer

Xbox boss says they have a "great relationship" with producer/director Naoki Yoshida.

Square Enix announced at the recent X019 event that many of its mainline Final Fantasy titles and the Kingdom Hearts HD remasters would be coming to Xbox Game Pass. However, there was one major omission. Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be coming to Xbox One as well.

The news was confirmed by Xbox boss Phil Spencer to GameSpot. He stated that, “In addressing the press at X019, Spencer said, “I wanted you to know, rest assured that we will be bringing that game [Final Fantasy 14] to Xbox. We have a great relationship with Yoshida-san and we’re working through what it means to bring [to Xbox] a cross-platform MMO that they’ve run for years.”

Over the years, director and producer Naoki Yoshida has talked about the possibility of bringing Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox One. It seems that work has finally come to fruition, though when the MMO will launch remains to be seen. There’s also the question of whether it will support cross-platform play with PS4 and PC.

In terms of subscription-based MMORPGs, Final Fantasy 14 is considered by many to be the best with 16 million players as of May 2019. It’s received numerous critically acclaimed expansions over the years with Heavensward, Stormblood and most recently, Shadowbringers. A new update even added YoRHa Apocalypse, a raid based on NieR: Automata and handled by Yoko Taro.
