Sega and developer Sports Interactive have announced a delay for the PS5 version of Football Manager 2023, just days before launch. This is due to “unforeseen complications, which have arisen during the submissions and approvals process.” A new release date has not been announced.
Sports Interactive studio director Miles Jacobson stated, “We’re devastated by this outcome, which we have worked tirelessly with our partners for several weeks to try to address. It was especially difficult to decide to delay, as it involves holding back a great game that many talented people within Sports Interactive have worked tremendously hard on for quite some time.
“We will continue to do everything in our power to get this game into the hands of PlayStation 5 gamers as soon as we can.”
It’s especially disappointing since Football Manager 2023 marked the series’ return to PlayStation since Football Manager 2014 on PlayStation Vita. The former takes advantage of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, though in what way has yet to be revealed.
The publisher and developer will provide an update on the matter “at the earliest opportunity.” In the meantime, those who purchased via PlayStation Store should see their pre-orders cancelled and a full refund issued. No action on their part is required. In the meantime, other versions of Football Manager 2023 are on track to release on November 8th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, PC, and Apple Arcade. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming days.
