Even aside from a new cinematic trailer and the announcement of Escape, The Coalition has a lot to share about Gears 5. Releasing on September 10th, the third person shooter will also have three player co-op available in the campaign. This will be playable either online or via split-screen co-op. But that’s not all – the game also supports 4K resolution and HDR at 60 frames per second on Xbox One X.
According to studio head Rod Fergusson on Mixer (at the 1 hour and 15 minute mark), split-screen co-op will run at 4K and 30 FPS. The Xbox One S is aiming for 60 FPS as well, though it’s not confirmed. Other new details revealed on the game’s official page include Tours of Duty. These are special challenges that let you rank up, earn different rewards, and “show off your loot.”
Boot Camp is also coming as a way for newcomers to learn the mechanics. But perhaps the most interesting addition is the ability to play as Jack the robot. As a support bot for Delta Squad, Jack can protect his friends and attack enemies, serving as a nice entry for new players into the series. Stay tuned for more details on Gears 5, especially with its appearance at the upcoming E3 Coliseum panel.
