Genshin Impact on Mobile Crosses $3 Billion in Lifetime Player Spending Worldwide

The free-to-play action RPG has averaged $1 billion in revenue every six months. China is its top revenue source with $973.3 million till date.

miHoYo’s free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact is still going strong after launching worldwide in September 2020. According to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence, it’s passed $3 billion in lifetime player spending worldwide on mobiles alone. After its first year, it reportedly took an additional 185 days to hit $3 billion in player spending.

On average, the title has earned $1 billion every six months and is one of the most successful mobile titles in history. In terms of revenue generation, it’s ranked third just behind Tencent’s Honor of Kings and Game for Peace. China remains a top source of revenue, accounting for $973.3 million to date or 30.7 percent of total player spending (for iOS alone). Japan is in second with 23.7 percent and the United States in third at 19.7 percent.

Asia as a whole makes up 70 percent of total player spending. Globally, the App Store makes up 50.5 percent of revenue while Google Play comprises 49.5 percent. Average worldwide monthly active users in Q1 2022 is also up by 44 percent year-over-year.

Genshin Impact is currently available for PS4, PS5, iOS, Android and PC. Its latest update, Version 2.7, was recently delayed but a new release date, along with compensation, will be announced “as soon as possible.”
