GTA Online Updates No Longer Heading to PS3 and Xbox 360

Previous gen consoles will no longer receive updates to the online game.

Rockstar Games has announced that Freemode Events and the Rockstar Editor would be out next week for Grand Theft Auto Online on PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, it seems that the developer has reached the “technical capacity of what the older generation of consoles can handle” and will no longer release updates for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

In a statement to Kotaku UK, Rockstar stated that, “We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall.”

It’s a shame but it was bound to happen sooner or later. This became apparent when certain graphical upgrades and the Rockstar Editor wouldn’t be arriving on PS3 and Xbox 360 but it’s good to finally have confirmation. Thoughts on this development? Let us know in the comments.
