Guilty Gear might not have the mainstream appeal of other fighting franchises like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, but it’s got a sizeable playerbase of its own, and where its last release, Guilty Gear Strive is concerned, that playerbase is continuing to grow pretty steadily.
Arc System Works has announced that Guilty Gear Strive has surpassed over 2.5 million players worldwide since its launch a couple of years ago. Notably, that makes it the most successful game in the series (at least by that specific metric), and also the first game published by Arc System Works to hit that milestone. The Arc System Works-developed Dragon Ball FighterZ obviously saw much more widespread success, but that, of course, is published by Bandai Namco.
Guilty Gear Strive launched for PS5, PS4, and PC in 2021, and earlier this year, also became available for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, where it was also available via Game Pass at launch, which likely will have boosted the fighter’s numbers. At last count, the game had sold over million units as of August 2022.
