At this point, Arrowhead Game Studios is known for the crossover events it tends to bring to Helldivers 2 every now and then, such as the relatively recent release of the Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Legendary Warbond. On the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, studio CEO Shams Jorjani has noted that the title might even one day feature a crossover event with Epic Games’ Fortnite.
As caught by Videogamer, Jorjani was responding to a fan’s question about whether Helldivers 2 would one day see a crossover with Fortnite. To this, he responded by saying that it wasn’t a priority for the time being. He did note that it could happen some day, and that Fortnite is cool and popular. “Not a priority,” wrote Jorjani on Discord. “But who knows one day. [Fortnite] is cool. And quite big.”
As for what this potential crossover would bring to Helldivers 2, the Halo crossover Warbond might give us a few hints about the matter. The Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Warbond brought with it a host of new cosmetic items, along with armour sets designed to look like Spartan suits. Along with these, the Warbonds also introduced Halo-themed weaponry to Helldivers 2, including the iconic Halo assault rifle – the MA5C. More recently, Jorjani had spoken about what kind of new features players could expect from a potential sequel to Helldivers 2. One of these features is a social hub in the vein of the Tower from Destiny and Destiny 2. Responding to a player on the official Discord server, Jorjani noted that, while the feature is unlikely to make it into the current title, it is already in the feature list for the next game in the series.
For context, the Tower in Destiny and Destiny 2 acts as the main home base for the player, where they can check out various vendors, access a host of different quests, and even collect rewards for bounties that they might have completed. Along with this, the Tower is also occupied by several players at the same time, allowing each player to show off their newly-acquired loot like armour sets and guns, as well as communicate with each other using a variety of in-game emotes.
Helldivers 2, on the other hand, doesn’t really have this type of social hub. The closest that the co-op shooter gets to the idea is the player’s own spaceship, where they can hang out alongside up to three other co-op buddies between missions. The spaceship does give players access to a host of in-game features, however, including the ability to edit their loadouts, upgrade their ship’s systems to access new and improved Stratagems, and even change up the cosmetics they might be wearing, like their player card, title, and even cloak.
Helldivers 2 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The title recently got major update – Into the Unjust – which brought with it Hive Worlds that have players take on the Terminid threats present underground.
