Hideo Kojima and Konami Spat Confirmed At The Game Awards

Konami's lawyer barred Kojima to attend The Game Awards.

So, one of the most anticipated game announcements at The Game Awards was something new from Hideo Kojima. Anything, really- a new chapter for Metal Gear Solid V would have been the best, but we would have taken anything.

It didn’t happen.

For a while, we were pissed. We’re huge Metal Gear fans at GamingBolt, and we didn’t understand why Geoff kept tweeting Kojima, why he kept teasing something big happening, if Kojima wasn’t even going to be there.

Until Keighley actually took the time to explain it, on stage, in front of the world, why this had happened- you see, Kojima was going to attend the show, and accept his awards, if nothing else. But he was prevented from doing so by a lawyer representing Konami, who informed him that under his employment contract, he could not legally attend the ceremony (on another note, now we also know why he wasn’t there at The PlayStation Awards either).

“As you noticed, Hideo Kojima is not here with us tonight and I want to tell you a little about that. Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s awards ceremony to accept any awards. He’s still under an employment contract. And it’s disappointing and it’s inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates.”

It was bold and gutsy, and it confirmed the Konami-Kojima spat for the first time, in public. Yikes.
