Hitman Next Gen New Details: Sandbox Gameplay, Contracts Mode, Largest Levels Ever

Development on the next Hitman is alive and well.

Hitman: Absolution developer IO Interactive issued an open letter to fans of the franchise about the next generation Hitman, which will focus on “a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA.” So it will take place before the events of Absolution it seems.

IO Interactive will be incorporating a number of exotic locations from around the world, built on Glacier 2 and featuring some of the largest levels yet for a Himan title. The developer will also be opting for a sandbox style of exploration, with no checkpoints and a non-linear approach to missions.

Contracts Mode also makes a return and you’ll “be able to create and build challenges by experimenting with the large levels and possibilities within them. And of course, you can share them with the world and challenge your friends or foes to complete your hits” according to the developer. They’ve also gotten rid of Agent 47’s magic pockets. Make of that what you will.

As of now, IO Interactive promises more details as 2014 progresses. The newest game will arrive on PC and next gen consoles so stay tuned for more details.
