With Forspoken out (and receiving mixed reviews), the next magic-focused RPG is Hogwarts Legacy, releasing next month. Based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, it’s set 100 years before the first book, as a fifth-year student with strange powers enrolls in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Based on leaks from the game’s official art book, the main story will take about 35 hours to complete. However, there are plenty of side quests to delve into. GamesRadar spoke to narrative director and advanced game writer Moira Squier, who confirmed over 100 side quests.
“The main storyline is complicated and engaging, and involves a variety of different characters and viewpoints, but by giving the player choice moments throughout the game, we allow them to tell their version of that epic story. Even the side quests, of which there are over 100, allow the player to manipulate the main campaign by virtue of the experiences they’ve had.
“Interacting with someone in a side quest will impact how you interact with them in the main storyline – and vice versa. The order in which the player chooses to complete these quests will impact their story and game. Everything is interconnected.” There’s probably an ideal route for the side quests to obtain specific outcomes, but we’ll have to play for ourselves and see.
Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It’s out on April 4th for PS4 and Xbox One, while the Nintendo Switch version launches on July 25th. For more details, check out our feature here.
