Immortals of Aveum Developer Hopes to Turn it into a Franchise

Ascendant Studios wants Immortals of Aveum to be "a franchise and something that can be extended in a lot of different directions."

The launch of a promising new IP that’s looking to something fresh and different is always exciting, and it seems that’s exactly what Ascendant Studios is doing with the upcoming Immortals of Aveum. A rare example of a AAA indie title, the magic first person shooter is promising a lengthy and cinematic single player experience– and it’s an idea that its developer seems to have a lot of confidence in, even in the long term.

Speaking in a recent interview with The Loadout, game director and Ascendant Studios CEO Bret Robbins said that the developer isn’t looking at Immortals of Aveum as a “one and done game”, and instead wants it “to be a franchise and something that can be extended in a lot of different directions.”

Whether that takes the form of a dedicated multiplayer game, a direct sequel, or perhaps an entirely different story set in the same universe is up in the air, but it certainly seems like no ideas are off the table with the studio.

“I think all of the above [is] possible,” Robbins said. “I’ve never finished working on a game where I didn’t immediately want to do a better version of it.”

Immortals of Aveum is due out on July 20 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and will retail for $70.
